The poster focuses on the food groups that should be eaten on a daily basis, giving common food examples and showing the number of serves to aim for. The poster is also available in smaller version in the popular Be Healthy, Be Active Useful Tips booklet. Nutritionists at Nestlé have worked closely with the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation and the Millennium Institute of Sport & Health to provide this poster which is in line with Ministry of Health Guidelines.
As a guide to serve sizes: use the size of a closed fist to represent a piece of fruit, vegetables or carbohydrates. Use the palm of your hand to represent a serve of meat. A serve size of dairy is a glass of milk, a pottle of yoghurt or match-box sized piece of cheese. To estimate serve sizes for children, use their hand size as an approximate guide.
