Nestlé is focused on reducing the environmental impact of our packaging, while not compromising on the fundamentals of safety and quality. Our vision is that none of our packaging ends up in landfill or as litter.
To achieve this, we are committed to making 100% of our packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025, and to reducing our use of virgin plastics by one third.
Our work includes:
- Developing packaging for the future: we are phasing out hard-to-recycle plastics, and working on new functional and safe packaging solutions through the Nestlé Institute of Packaging Sciences, the first of its kind in the food industry.
- Help shape a waste-free future: we are working to explore packaging solutions which reduce our use of plastics, facilitating recycling and developing new solutions to help eliminate plastic waste.
- Drive new behaviours and understanding: we are working to ensure consumers know how to dispose of waste correctly. We are rolling out the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL), which provides simple and easy to understand on-pack recycling information, by showing which bin to recycle in. We are working with external partners including governments, community groups and NGOs to support consumer education programs.
