1. Are there nanoparticles in Nestlé NAN products?
The quality and safety of our products are non-negotiable priorities for our company. All of our products are safe to consume and comply with FSANZ regulations.
Recent media coverage has talked a lot about nanoparticles, which are particles of microscopic size that can occur naturally and commonly in the environment, including foods such as milk. We have a long history of consuming nanoparticles in foods, with no known evidence of adverse effects.
The production process for some ingredients in our products might generate particles in the nano-size range, known as incidental nanoparticles. Engineered nanoparticles, in contrast, are intentionally produced at the nano-scale and designed with very specific properties related to shape, size, or surface properties. We do not use engineered nanoparticles in any of our products.
2. Have any Nestlé NAN products been affected or recalled?
There has been some recent media coverage around infant formula. Please be assured, no Nestlé NAN product has been recalled. Every batch of infant formula is extensively tested before it is released for sale to ensure that it meets our own high quality standards and complies with all relevant food safety laws and regulations.
NAN HA Gold 1 was deleted from our range in early 2016. This was not related to safety or quality: it was a ranging decision. Regardless, there is no safety risk related to the presence of nanoparticles in infant formula.
