Micronutrient fortification to help support healthy diets
Across the world, as part of our regenerative journey, we are working hard to ensure that millions of people can access the nutrients they need. In 2020 alone, we delivered over 196 billion servings of fortified food in countries where people need it the most.
Globally, we invest in research and innovation to launch thousands of affordable, nutritious products. By fortifying food brands people know and love, we can help millions of families get the nutrition they need to nourish their bodies.
We fortify family favourite brands like MILO and UNCLE TOBYS breakfast cereals with important vitamins and minerals. Some of these include:
1. Iron to help reduce tiredness and fatigue and maintain cognitive function
2. Calcium for strong bones and teeth
3. Vitamin D to support healthy muscles
4. Zinc for growth and development in children, and to support a healthy immune system.
Our vision in action
Awareness is the first step, so we help educate families on the importance of micronutrients in diets. Globally, we team up with governments, universities, and civil society organisations to help inspire action through educational and social media campaigns as well as supporting important micronutrient deficiency research.
In Australia and New Zealand, MILO is fortified with nine essential vitamins and minerals to provide a nutritional boost to the diet when energy and nutrient intakes may be inadequate. UNCLE TOBYS and Nestlé breakfast cereals also provide important nutrients including folate, iron and calcium to help support daily nutrient needs.
Small adjustments can make a big difference. In Papua New Guinea we fortify MAGGI noodles with 15% of the recommended daily iron and zinc requirements. By enhancing the nutritional quality of this popular product, we help bridge the nutrient gap to support daily nutritional needs.
We know our work is by no means finished. Across the globe, we continue designing solutions to help more families get the nutrients they need to live healthier lives.
